This course teaches students the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential for avoiding dangerous confrontations and for the safe, effective, and responsible use of a concealed pistol for self-defense outside the home. Completion of NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting and Personal Protection In the Home courses are prerequisites. Students must possess a firearm appropriate for concealed carry (.38 special/9mm minimum caliber) and be capable in its use, function, and manipulation. Also a holster specific to the firearm and spare magazines or speed loaders with carrying pouches are required. The Level 1 live fire shooting exercises, conducted on an outdoor range, require 150 cartridges of quality factory manufactured ammunition. Reloaded ammunition is not permitted. Additional Level 2 shooting exercises require an additional 150 cartridges.
