This NRA Home Firearm Safety Course will require about 4½ to 5 hours. This is a non-shooting class covering the basics of pistol, rifle, and shotgun safety. Trainees receive the hard cover NRA Home Firearm Safety Handbook. Course lessons will cover: The NRA Rules for Safe Gun Handling, identifying, loading, and unloading different firearms along with practical exercises in safe gun handling. Types of ammunition, field stripping and cleaning firearms, and safe storage and transportation of firearms. Trainees may, if they wish, stay for training with real firearms and learn methods to train at home safely using lasers and laser targeting software.
